Month of Softies - Molly Ann

Molly1I'm a posting maniac today! I have been so busy with the final art for the book for Standard, and also finishing my softie! What's a softie? Its a group project started by Loobylu with a new theme every month. This month's theme is the intriguing Vintage Catwalk.

So I'd like to introduce you to Molly Ann, who is about to set out on her walk to school. She is 11" tall and made of black velveteen, blanket stitched in blue (I wouldn't recommend blanket stitching velveteen, especially anywhere near your computer - you end up with a fine layer of tiny velvet fibers all over everything, ask me how I know). I used lots of things from my grandmothers sewing table, like her vintage button eyes. Her dress is a cheery plaid from a bundle of yummy fabrics that Katy gave me for Christmas! And double thanks to Katy for creating these, which were my inspiration for Molly Ann's little bag. Its made of unwashed wool, with a bit of vintage cord for the strap.

Mollybag2 The best part is what Molly Ann has in her bag. She has her pencil, house key, lunch money, a fresh hankie and an apple for her teacher. The pencil is a golf pencil courtesy of my son, the key is from my gran, tied with a bit of vintage ribbon, and the hankie has been monogrammed with the letter M! I had the wee apple leftover from another project, and the coin is some sort of foreign currency, amazingly tiny!

Well, as you can probably tell, I had tons o' fun creating this little cat. I find that sewing is a perfect break from my computer work. I have my sewing center set up on a table right behind me, and I just swivel around to go back to my regular work. Easy peasy! I can't wait to see the rest of the softies, Claire doesn't put them all up until after the end of the month. Big thanks to Claire for creating the Softie phenomenon!!!

Cheers!

Jenny

Absolutely wonderful! I love the blue stiching on the black plus her purse contents. So cute!

what a cutie! You really went to town with the extras--nice touch.

That cat is super cute! I love all the accessories :-)

I knew there was a greater reason why I picked up those fat quarters at the quilt store and thought of you! :) I adore the little pencil and apple.. It reminds me of when I used to pore through the American Girls catalog and ogle all the accessories!
