Ah, nothing like a trip to the Dallas Quilt Show to get my creative jets fired up! Vicky and I went on Saturday and had a fabulous time, saw some beautiful quilts, and browsed tons of fabric and sewing-type goodies.
A few highlights, like this bow-tie fan quilt using my favorite 30's repro fabrics. I have a lot of those pieces in my stash! Here's the whole thing:
and one more mouthwatering close-up of those candy colors...
My camera's flash was acting up so most of the pics aren't that great, but I'll put some up on Flickr in a bit if you want to see more.
And of course, the shopping is the best part. So much to take in! Unfortunately I hesitated on a funky Dick and Jane quilt kit, and when I went back to the booth it was gone. And at the end of the day, I ended up with no fabric at all, unless you count a 1940's tablecloth and 13 yards of vintage aqua rick rack!
And these cool vintage buttons followed me home...
I love the quilt show, in fact it was my first visit to a quilt show that provided the spark that led to my current illustration style! In fact, an intense desire to incorporate pattern into my work is what propelled me to get a mac and make the transition to working digitally. All because of that quilt show. And it still inspires me!
In fact... I'm so inspired, I'm making a doll quilt!
It's all in reds, what a shocker!
Cheers,
Jenny

I love the bow tie quilt, it has so much movement in it. I have never seen this block with the little red triangles added to the corners. Thanks for sharing.

That bow tie quilt is amazing. I love quilt shows too, the variety alone is worth it.

I loved that quilt, too! Great colors that really pop with that crisp white! There was lots of eye candy and inspiration! Just not enough time to take it all in. Have fun with your purchases!

I know the name of this quilt pattern is called Confetti... but it really should have been named after you Jenny! It's SOOOOO you. Or rather... SEW you! (ok, that was lame... I really do need a nap). What a stunning use of color and 30's.
Thanks for sharing your highlights of the show (and your great photography as well)!

That quilt is so beautiful, and so interesting. It looks totally different up close than it does from far away - taking in the whole design. Thanks for sharing!
And I love your button scores, of course!

I have been admiring your blog for a while now and it is definitely one of my favorites. I love the colors and the freshness of it and you have inspired me more than once. Thank you! I am making my first quilt and it has been a lot of fun. I made your little envelopes at Christmas as a gift for my sister. I only made 12 and made them big enough to hold gift cards and earrings and things, but it was a really fun gift. I had as much fun shopping for it as she had opening it. Again, thanks for all the inspiration.

That is really one gorgeous quilt. I, too, am a total sucker for the 30's fabric, I have quite a selection of it myself, and am adding all the time. I am doing a scrappy 30's and vintage feedsack Grandmother's Flower Garden quilt, so one can never have too much of it!

Hello. I came across your blog on Morgan Moore's "One More Moore" site. I love all of your fun stuff! What part of the Dallas area are you in? My husband, daughter, and I are relocating to Frisco.

Hey, thank you for this wonderful blog. I always feel uplifted, motivated, and inspired. I love how you shared how the quilt show inspired your work. I think as designers we sometimes want to guard how we got our inspiration. Anyhoo, thank you for all the luscious visuals and good words! Very nice.
