Marie Claire and her big Idées
Whatever kind of day it is before Marie Claire Idées appears in my mailbox, it instantly becomes a good day. The cover tells the color story found inside the latest issue... springy pinks, blues and greens.
I don't have any pink walls in the house, but holy cow this is pretty. I LOVE the plates on the wall... those are FABRIC! Could it be any better? Hopefully Google translate will come to my rescue yet again so I can find out how to construct these beauties.
Then there is this blue room. This has revived a yen to try my hand at mosaic... and maybe repaint a room or two.
Another pink room, I love that teacuppy candelabra!
I am normally not a huge fan of green but look at that bag! Crochet is not my forté but if I knew this was possible I might make more of an effort. The kitty is pretty cute, too. I'm seeing lots of this shade of green lately, looks like an English green to me. I had a couch in London that was a William Morris sort of pattern in that shade so maybe that's why.
Sigh... so many ideés... so little time!
Cheers,
Jenny

It's my favorite magazine ever! I need to go to the bookstore tonight, I think, and see if they have it in yet :o)

Well, a little help with translation...> means "Do you know how to carry (or wear) cabbages?" So cute!
Posted by: Pam | February 28, 2008 at 08:25 PM
Ha! Ha! You made my day! I have been a fan of Marie Clair Idees forever it seems! With each new issue I run around with the same saying, "If only there was a computer program to translate this" well, I'm on my way to check out Google translate....:)
Posted by: Lisa | February 28, 2008 at 08:26 PM
Hmmm, I think I inadvertently used some html. I was trying to use French quotation marks around "Savez-vous porter les choux" and it disappeared!
Posted by: Pam | February 28, 2008 at 08:28 PM
Thanks for the beauteous pictures! I too, love the "choux" bag.
Posted by: Kristin | February 28, 2008 at 10:18 PM
Cabbage or whatever, that bag is just too cool! I want it!
Posted by: Katrin | February 29, 2008 at 12:55 AM
Crochet is easy Jenny, go on, you can do it. Make the green bag.
I love the way it looks like a collection of cabbage leafs.

I love Marie Claire Idees and literally 10 minutes ago my friend John who frequently flies through Paris called to say he was coming to Dundee on his way to a meeting and he wanted to deliver a Marie Claire Idees to me - now I have had a preview I am looking forward to having my mucky paws on the real thing!
Posted by: Di | February 29, 2008 at 07:20 AM
I love the cabbage purse!! Such a cute and happy little thing.:)
Teacup candelabra? Why did I not think of that?
It all just jumps off my computer screen and says, "Here I am!! Enjoy me! Spring is on its way!"
Posted by: Karin | February 29, 2008 at 07:51 AM
Ditto on all you said. I finally subscribed to Idees, and the day it arrived I did a little dance. Totally made my day. Glad I'm not the only one.

Oooh, such eye candy! I can't wait to get my hands on a copy!
Posted by: beki | February 29, 2008 at 09:20 AM
To marné and lisa,"Savez-vous porter des choux" is a referance to an old french nursery rhyme "Savez-vous plantez des choux" Which translates to "Do you know how to plant cabages?" but in the article they have replaced "planter" to plant with "porter" to wear :O) Very clever.
This said, I LOVE the fabric plats, if I can find a Marie Claire in this forgoten part of the land I shall make these and translat it for the busy and the lazy!
Thanks for telling us. :O) oxo

I love that tea cup candelabra! I should make one...I "accidentally" signed up for getting the Budget Decorating magazine. I clicked to get one free issue and it turns out, you actually sign up for the subscription. It's not expensive so I think I'm going to keep it coming. I love getting these magazines in the mail! My mom got me Wish for my birthday and my hubby got me Writers Digest...so I'm mag-happy (:

"cabbage" is also a French word that is used as an endearment, as in "mon petit choux," "my little cabbage."

Oh my goodness! I've been planning to start a pretty plate collection for hanging on the wall, but I bet this is more economical. I wonder if they used super-thick fusible interfacing? I'd love to know!

Mine arrived last week and I was going to post some of the same pix--now I don't have to!! Love this issue. My ONLY lament...I wish I'd paid attention more in French class. [Oui?]

You are so lucky. I just LOVE that magazine. Every page is filled with such loveliness. I've been trying to track down a copy for such a while. These pictures give me even more incentive!

I have never seen this magazine before. This is different than the usual Marie Claire, isn't it? You are so right that the color are perfect. Everything you highlighted in this post is YUMMY! That teacup candelabra looks like it popped out of a fairytale!
By the way, where do you get the magazine? Or does it just come from France through subscription?
Thanks for sharing, KJ

I know it may be in french hence leaving you a bit in the dark , but Marie Claire Idées launched their blog (http://mci.blogs.marieclaireidees.com/)two months ago, and they are regulary posting about nice adresses treasure finds ,and tips etc, so even if it may be unreadable for you, clicking on the links they give can be quite a nicelittle voyage sometimes;)

Everything is simply beautiful and inspiring but please if you get any more information on those fabric plates, will you share?
Now those are simply too cool.

ooh the rooms are so colourful and i love the draws very pretty!

I love color on a wall. That is my vow - to paint as we are moving into our (next) place. No more white or beige! Twice now we've painted before moving - thus allowing someone else to enjoy our hard work. No more!
And I love the mosaic on the dresser! Too cool.

I just went to Barnes and Noble yesterday - they had the old holiday issue of Marie Claire Idees in the craft magazine section. I still picked it up as it was chock full of lovely holiday ideas - tons of red which I had to have! It was on the very top row and a salesperson said they put the foreign language magazines there. So, if you check back they should be getting the spring issue in shortly - the cost was $9.95. Hope that helps some of you - don't know about subscriptions, I have a former foreign exchange student from French who is checking into it for me. Will post here if I find anything out.

I just got back from vacation to see your post! I have been a fan of MCI for 11 years and counting...and they just never go out of style. I think this is one of the best issues yet, and I, too, blogged about the teacup candelabra as soon as the magazine came last month! Such a joy to read again and again.
Posted by: Rachel | March 05, 2008 at 06:21 AM

I LOVE that magazine! I guess I'm going to have to break down and get a sub. Tired of hunting for it and missing great issues like that one.
Posted by: Cindy | March 05, 2008 at 06:28 PM
Please DO let us know if you find out how to do the fabric plates. I'm wondering if they color photocopied the fabric and then decopauged (sp?) it on the back of clear plates.

Oh, when I clicked to enlarge the picture, I can see that the cloth is applied to the front of the plates probably with a fusible that peels and sticks.

How can we get this in English??
I love those "plates"!!

I love that magazine. The embroidery designs are easy to copy, since the yarn colors are the same number in France as in US. But I really wish I could read French.
You can order it on amazon.com. That's what I did.
