On my desk... pretties
Hi gang! (uh oh, she's gone all chirpy on us again)
It's great to have Claire back to blogging, I missed her postings while she took a nice long sabbatical. Now she's joining Kirsty in a simple and easy meme: on my desk Wednesdays. Since I love to play along, I picked up my camera and captured this pretty scene at the end of my desk... my (fake) peony and a dandy new oilcloth bag I picked up here on a shopping jaunt last week. I admit to mildly cheating, since a deep clean of the studio happened this weekend, so normally that end of the desk would be nothing more than a dangerously leaning tower of papers and whatnot. But fear not, it's only a matter of time before another one builds up. Relentless.
I especially liked the idea of this meme (definition here) because it is so simple and easy. I have a tendency to get all perfectionist about posts, and end up letting embarrassingly long gaps develop between them. And that's not really the point of blogging, is it? It should be for enjoyment, to reach out and connect with kindred souls, share a chuckle or a fun photo. Anyone else find themselves struggling with this? I'm guessing more than a few.
Let's make this a cheery day, whadaya say?
Jenny

Whenever I go to take a photo of something creative, I have to clean all around just to make sure that the "mess" of the creative process isn't in the way. It's endless, but always feels good when done for that brief second. Love the bag.

How is it to have a subscription to Marie Claire magazine? I usually have to wait until it arrives in the local book store. I was so spoiled when I lived in France and got them in a more timely manner. Looks like by the date you posted this it came in February? I would love to know how you got your subscription. My blog has a few examples of Marie Claire embroidery patterns that I made a while back and most recent. I love your blog by the way, so colorful and cheerful.

Just for a second I thought - "great idea". But then I had a look at my desk.
Oh. My. God.
It's just a week ago that I had this cleaned, wiped and all pretty organized and now it's back to the usual chaos with pins, markers, notices and sketches all over again and also some handsewing thread and needles (buttons needed to be fixed...), beads and crochet hooks and and and...

This is a lovely on my desk shot. Sadly, no roses for us for another 6 months. Thanks for playing along.

That's a very pretty fake flower!
I can tell you that since I just started blogging again, I seriously obsess over everything I write. So I understand you! That's probably what caused me to quit blogging last time. But not this time! I will not let my slight OCD get the better of me! :)

Great blog, whenever I take a photo and think hmm could use that on my blog, I have to have a major tidy up/edit of my environment.

so THAT'S a what a meme is!

At first I thought the bag was actually the paper wrapped around a flower pot...it's very pretty. I have a vintage inspired floral oil cloth bag I cart around with my embroidery in it. I don't see it on the website link you gave, 'tho.

Thank you for the nice words about loobylu Jenny!. Your desk looks *lovely* today. Makes me want to go and clean mine. xx

I agree, its easy to get into 'perfectionist' mode when blogging. I LOVE that oilcloth bag. What a pretty desk. x

you hit the nail on the head with the perfectionist posts...LOL! I'm trying, but I go through where I post daily and then don't blog for a few days...always thinking what is going on won't interest anyone.
I'm jumping in on the meme! Thanks!
Lovely pic!
With friendship,

Lovely colors on that bag. I too thought it was part of the flower arrangement.
Memes are fun. ;-)

Maybe I should get a fake flower to brighten up things around here... That peony is beautiful... I can't wait until mine are blooming again this summer!

I love this! Your blog is so bright and cheery, thanks!

Yes, I have the same problem with being a perfectionist about blog posts. And yes, it often results in me updating infrequently. I've also found that whichever habit I get into - blogging often, or not often enough, it tends to build on it's self.

Boy do I know what your saying... I do the same thing. I get all caught up in what I should say... but I need to just SAY IT! (or not at all and just SHOW IT with a picture or something... It really DOESN'T matter. ;) Thanks for sharing- love that little bag too! ;)

Shannon

My desk is looking a little wimpy today since it was moved and emptied so that I could paint the floor. Nothing to take a picture of I'm afraid! :) I did however, post a picture of a recent stitching project if you wanted to stop by and take a peek at the blog!
Love your sweet desktop too! That oilcloth bag is just fabulous!

Yes, yes! Me, too! Thank you for bringing this up, I needed to hear it!

I too am a perfectionist about blogging (and everything else in life!) so this is a good idea...but I don't have the courage to try it yet! hee, hee...
By the way, you've been tagged as one of my favorite bloggers, but don't feel obligated to participate. I know you are very busy...just know I love reading your blog! :o)

What a beautiful bag! I seriously need to have a big SPRING CLEAN here and bottom out a few rooms. The trouble is there are chicks and birds and eggs and bunnies to make at this time of year. :-)

So true, so true. I wish I could get over my perfectionist hang-ups about my writing. In fact that was originally what caused me to start blogging, but some days I think I'm only perpetuating a bad habit. Oh well, we just have to keep at it I guess! :)
By the way, I just stumbled upon your blog today, and I have to say I love what I see! And that bag is gorgeous!

I have been reading your blog forever and love it. I just today caught up and am wondering if you'll even get this post. Anyway, the site you say your oil cloth bag is from doesn't show it at all. Is it out or did you give the wrong company.
Thank you!
