British country living
I just spent a happy hour or so poring through a couple of new British decorating magazines, and I feel like I've taken a mini-vacation. Ro took me to Borders on Mother's Day and I bought a tidy stack of magazines. I'm trying to stretch them out to last as long as possible. My faves are the British versions of Country Living and Country Homes and Interiors. That inspired me to look at one of my favorite Brit blogs, Posy, where I clicked through her inspirations and passions links. I ended up on the Decorative Country Living site. I believe I blogged once before about their clever children's toys and such, this time I was enamored with the kitchen and household items, like the sweet tea set, above. And this adorable shelf...
and this pump bottle of hand wash, just because I love that shade of blue...
and a fun set of metal cannisters...
fabric brooches (I love that word)...
and finally this enamelware vase. Man do I love that shade of blue! I guess I'm feelin' the blue these days...
I think I'll pour myself a glass of wine and immerse myself in those British magazines again. Wish I could go there in real life, but for now, my imagination will have to suffice.
Cheers,
Jenny

Oh, I love it all. Thanks for sharing. I am wrangling with the notion adding a few similar touches in my home.
All the best,
Kelly

I don't want to burst your bubble, but I don't think we're really all as Olde Worlde as that here in the UK. I love looking at those magazines myself and dreaming.

Hi Jenny, I love reading those magazines too, I love reading your blog too. Hope sometime you do get to visit England and make the dream come true. Jane

Ooh yes, if only life were like Country Living! (I think it is for some, but I do think they over egg it a bit) and why not, we all need a little escapism sometimes! I've not seen Decorative SL, will keep my eyes open for it. What gorgeous pictures.

I shan't shatter your illusion about country life here in the UK (it's raining as I type this) but those items are divine! And "brooches" is a strange word isn't it?!

The hanger on that little shelf is crazily like some that I found at an antique sale this past winter. I never thought I'd see another one! (http://frenchyfinds.blogspot.com/2008/02/antique-sale-finds-again.html)
:) Thanks for the links!

Those 2 mags are my 2 favs in the world besides ME Home Companion. Last night I was just pouring over 2 issues from last summer. Whenever I read them I am convinced I am from the wrong country...sigh...

i'm ashamed to admit that even though i live about 20 mins drive from that shop, i still haven't been!. i daren't!, i'd simply have to spend far too much money if i set foot in there ; )
my mother in law gets country living, i love flicking through all her old copies when we go and visit.

Love the fabric brooches, they just made me smile. Did you make them? If you did, could you share the pattern or technique? I tried to figure out from the enlarged picture how they were done but I was not successful.

Posy in England is one of my fave blogs, too. She has so many pretty pics of her home & the countryside.
I wanna visit that shop! Love everything I see in it - esp. that cute blue stroller that looks like it came from The Jetsons. :)

had to post back here again... i went to the shop!!!, yesterday afternoon. took quite a while to find it, as it's so tucked away in a tiny village it's hard to spot. it's much smaller inside than i thought it was going to be, but is crammed with lovely things. i took my daughter with me and she loved it too, i ended up buying her a little handmade fairy which they wrapped in pink tissue paper, and now she wants to keep it like that, all wrapped up as it's special!
i'll have to go back now i know where it is!
