Friday archives - Month of Softies
Remember Lulu the sock monkey? She's one of my favorite softies.
I've been thinking about how I got started on making soft toys (not that I've made all that many, but I dream). So, for the Friday archives... Remembering the Month of Softies. This is quite apropos, as it was Claire who started the Friday archives, and she also originated the Month of Softies back in 2005. She has the best ideas, I always want to play along. That was when I first started blogging, and man, my photographic skills were pretty sorry then. Yikes. I was smitten with the characters I saw others creating and couldn't resist trying my own. Lulu was the last Month of Softies creation I made, Maxwell here was the first...
Next was Molly...
Poor things, they have rather glazed expressions. Molly was made of lovely black velveteen, and the studio ended up covered in black fuzz after I (in my ignorance) blanket stitched the edges.
Next up was Peekaboo the baby monster. Peek...
a...
Boo!
Then my first doll, Alice in Wonderland, which I interpreted as Alice in Westernland...
And another month she was joined by her trusty stick horse, Nickers...
So much fun learning something new! I don't recall what happened to Month of Softies, but I sure had a blast while I was participating. And it started a longtime love. I've got a sketchbook full of characters waiting for me to get busy and get stitching!
Cheers, have a wonderful weekend! I'm planning on having a great weekend, Sunday is my birthday! Woohoo!

These little softies are just adorable. Did you use a pattern or make them up or self?
I think you should make and sell.
Best wishes for a very happy birthday.

All of your softies are adorable but I like your elephant and kittie the best! I like the idea of a month of softies, Claire should do that again.
