July's theme might be my favorite so far ~ Love Letters!

Drumroll please... the theme for July is Love Letters! Not just as in love letters but as in I LOVE LETTERS! I've spent many an hour poking through font sites, marveling at the variety of beautiful and creative alphabets. My favorite font site is myfonts.com and no doubt they love me for the amount of money I've spent there. But I also am fascinated how letters can be an artist's muse, for example Jessica Hische of the Daily Drop Cap. All the letters I used in the graphic above came from her site (with a little tweaking and re-colorizing by moi). The beautiful work she has created and generously shared is astonishing. We ordered one of her prints to give as a Christmas gift, and it was gorgeous. Classic letterpress, lovely to see.

And of course, I love to see letters used in creative ways, on posters, in art and in sewing and crafty projects. Like the two images I shared in my last post! This is going to be fun.

And since I wasted spent so much time playing around with the letters for my graphic, I don't have any time left to get into the topic... it will have to wait for another day. Right now it's time to try to get some real work done before the weekend is here. I hope you all have a good one!

A little flag waving

This year we celebrated the Fourth on the Third, to accommodate the work schedule of two family members which we couldn't do without. As mentioned earlier, the house was duly festooned...

A fantastic strawberry pie by our niece Alison was consumed (among a lot of other items).

And we spent the afternoon on the porch, watching the kids play in a goofy sprinkler thing, shoot each other (and us) with water pistols and set off the most benign "fireworks" I've ever seen.

But seriously, today is all about the celebration of the birth of America, and lately I've been very conscious of the sacrifices of the men and women who step up to serve this country. Many pay the ultimate price for the freedom that we all enjoy. I salute and thank you and your families...

I love this poster, courtesy of a little crafting, and the one at top, from the crafting chicks. And they are both hints as to what the theme for July is going to be!

Counting down to the Fourth... and it's Freebie Friday!

Time to open the box, and get ready for the celebration!

The bunting is up on the front of the house, and I'm assembling my pinwheels from last year. So here is your Friday freebie! Since this is from 2010, I guess I'm cheating a little bit, but recycling is good, right?
