Now that I (finally) purchased a spiffy new scanner, I can add some images from some of my book collection to the Vintage Children's Books group on Flickr! It's the only group I ever started, and it has grown to over 250 members and 1100 images! I'm so proud!
I bought my first copies of Oz books at second-hand book shops, and my Mom scored several from a neighbor selling them at a garage sale! Since then the price has gone way up and the last few cost me a small fortune. And now they are too much to consider adding more, so my collection is finished at fourteen titles I suppose. These are the titles I have:
- The Wonderful Wizard of Oz
- The Marvelous Land of Oz
- Ozma of Oz
- Dorothy and the Wizard in Oz
- The Road to Oz
- The Patchwork Girl of Oz
- Tik-Tok of Oz
- The Scarecrow of Oz
- The Tin Wood man of Oz
- The Magic of Oz
- Kabumpo in Oz
- The Yellow Knight of Oz
- The Shaggy Man of Oz
- Queen Zixi of Ix (which is by Baum but not technically an Oz book)
L. Frank Baum wrote the first fourteen books and Ruth Plumly Thompson wrote nineteen more. John R. Neill illustrated all but the first one and the last four. The covers are so beautiful. Here are some more of my favorites.
And here is where they live in my house, in a rustic cabinet in my living room.
You can see more in my Vintage Kidlit Art set, and learn more about the Oz books and All Things Oz here or here.
It has been a long time since I sat down and actually read the books, might be time to head down that yellow brick road again.
Cheerio,
Jenny
