Whenever I need some inspiration, I pay a visit to the Vintage Children's Books group on flickr. I pop in there from time to time and do my group owner thing, and marvel at the fantastic images that have been added since my last visit. Amazingly, the group has grown to nearly 3,000 members, and has over 18,000 images in the pool! 18,000! I'm truly blown away. As always, flamenconut from loopy London (her description) has the highest number of contributions with 1,366, followed closely by finsbry with 1,132. I can't fathom it, between them they have scanned and uploaded almost 2,500 images. That is worth a big wow!
These images are from flamenconut's set called Wee Peeps, a collection of artwork depicting little people, fairies and so forth. Fairyland Tales is by Rene Cloke, the others are by Mabel Lucie Attwell, one of my all-time favorite illustrators.
I love the sweet and jolly scenes she painted, with children, animals in costume, fairies and pixies all playing happily together.
What a lovely world she created!
By the way... whenever I post something I've made (especially when I struggled a bit in the creation of it) your super nice comments are the best part of the entire process. I know I should reply to every comment, and I am constantly vowing to dutifully reply to every one, but then I get distracted and go off in some odd direction, and there ya go. In case you didn't know, I love hearing what you have to say, and I appreciate that you took the time to leave a comment. It means a lot. Armloads of thanks... you guys are the greatest.
Cheers,
Jenny
