In keeping with this month's theme of wee folk, I thought my little mascot needed a wardrobe change. So, now she's a flower fairy! I also want to share some lovely vintage illustrations of flower fairies collected from the Vintage Childrens Books group on flickr. I fell in love with two artists in particular. Feast your eyes on these winged adorables by ilustrator Rene Cloke...
And these little darlings by Cecily Mary Barker...
Aren't they gorgeous? Seriously, I could just crawl right into those images and hang out for a while. In fact, when I was a wee Jenny, I was absolutely certain that teeny tiny people really existed. In my own garden I envisioned the bushes as giant trees in a miniature world. I'd make tiny clearings in the shrubbery and lay pebbled paths, imagining they led to hidden doorways. I remember getting in trouble when I clipped all the thorns off of a rose bush, because the thorns looked out of place in my tiny imagined forest. But my grandmother's house was the best place for me to lose myself in this little world. I was her only grandchild, and she let me disappear into my vivid imaginings for hours and hours. I envisioned a very happy family of borrowers who wandered that wonderful old house chock full of interesting relics and knick knacks. I certainly was happy wandering there!
But, like Alice drinking from the tiny bottle, it is time to zoom back to the regular-size world. I have lots of projects calling my name, and even some actual illustration assignments! So, onward and upward!
Cheers ~ Jenny
